Weather & Climate:

Remember: Buenos Aires is in the southern hemisphere - the season is the opposite of the US. Winter can be chilly and warm jackets are handy.
Getting Around Town:
Taxis obtained by the bellman are preferred (use only "Radio Cabs"). Some people use the subway.
Concierge will give directions to major attractions, maps available at front desk.

Restaurants We Like:
-Cristal - walking
-des Nivel (neighborhood: San Telmo) - Argentine - newly remodeled-cab ride
-Establo - steak place - open all day - moderate
-Las Lilas - walking - expensive

-Pizza Madero - not expensive, empanadas, pizza, salads, vino
-Kansas (neighborhood: Palermo)
-Bakery directly across the hotel front door on the corner has gorgeous, beautifully packaged pastries - Thanks, Deborah K. who often brings them as gifts to her friends!
-Fridays - American breakfast - very reasonable - easy walk
- ifresh - Deli and American breakfast available - easy walk

The neighborhood Puerto Madero has many good restaurants as does Palermo Soho, Hollywood and Recoleta. It's hard to have a disappointing meal in Buenos Aires.
Tipping:
- A 10% tip is customary at restaurants and cafes. On other services, it's up to you.

Shopping Finds:
There are beautiful leather shoes (usually on sale because their seasons are opposite of ours!) and handbags - try Bettina (bettinarizzi.com) for leather; leather goods such as coats are nice too (carpincho is a local leather which is interesting and attractive); yarns are gorgeous (go the to the yarn district), Malbec wines are local to Argentina. If you have acquired a taste for Malbecs they are fantastic and can be reasonable. Artwork and framing - Paseo del Arte at Santa Fe and Uruguay for framing (1092 Uruguay). Take home some tangy Chimichurri sauce - fantastic with beef!
Regular banking hours are M-F 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stores are open M-F 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Sat. 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. However, you will find open stores on main avenues on Saturday afternoon and even on Sundays. Shopping centers are open every day.

What to See:

The Recoleta area - street artists on weekends Teatro de Colon
Cemetary at Recoleta - Evita's Mausoleum San Telmo Antique Market
