The four of us who went with him enjoyed every minute. The weekend in DXB is Friday-Saturday. Friday was a good day to go, as the traffic was quiet and we saw more than we would have ever seen on a weekday. Contact him at mohamedanyway@yahoo.com. |

-Christmas
Markets: Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich
In the old days (as far back as 1434), Christmas
markets lasted no more than a day or two and were
held in the area around the main church. In the
present day, Christmas markets usually start before
the first weekend of Advent (around the end of
November) and continue until Christmas Eve. Some
do not finish until Epiphany on 6 January. You
can buy everything you need for Christmas here:
candles, tree decorations, sweets, biscuits, baking
tins and toys, and in some cases, candles, jewelry,
scarves and other gorgeous gift items. Over time,
each market developed its own character, influenced
by its setting, regional traditions or particular
specialities. Enjoy a traditional glühwein (hot spiced wine) while shopping the different
vendors - some take credit cards, some cash only.
The markets are busy after business hours when
workers are off from their jobs - weekends are
also busy - shop during the day and enjoy the
ambience in the evening hours! FYI-Frankfurt and
Munich are outdoors, Zurich is inside the main
train station, and in the past has had an enormous
Swarovsky Christmas tree! |

-Blue Light Special in the Desert:
Carpets in Kuwait (that has
a nice ring to it, doesn't it?) are a great deal.
The Thursday-Friday market, near the airport, has
row after row of any size carpet you want, in lots
of styles and colors. The hotel can wrap in string
and at the airport the baggage staff will shrink-wrap
for 1/2 Dinar, and assist with check-in. Also, the
International Food Market in the buildings next door,
has all kinds of prepackaged spices to make Middle
Eastern foods, complete with instructions in English.
They also have all sorts of prepared foods for take-away!
Perfect!
